Inelastic neutron scattering from correlated electrons

C.Vettier Institut Laue Langevin Grenoble, France
  • Neutrons probe electronic properties of solids through electrons spins and can be used to detect electronic correlations. The time scales probed by neutrons range from microseconds to femtoseconds; on the long time side, neutrons resolve fluctuations at time scales longer than .01 second. A wide range of experimental set-ups exist which can access these different time domains.
Applications are found in ordinary magnets, superconducting materials, and more exotic systems such as low dimensional materials and frustrated magnets.
The lecture will provide basic information and formalism about the methodology, descriptions of experimental methods and various examples of applications.
