Structural aspects of magnetism in low-dimensional systems

  • Introduction to low-dimensional physics. Ground states: charge- and spin-density waves, bond-order waves. Spin-Peierls states. Examples in organic systems (Bechgaard and Fabre salts and related compounds) and inorganic systems (chromium, CuGeO3, BaVS3, Vanadates). Introduction to X-ray scattering. Coherent diffraction and diffuse scattering. Application to the study of low-dimensional systems.
